Henna for All!
So on Friday the boys and I went to a local Indian grocery store to see if we could find some for my Saturday night adventure. I bought a little bit too much so we decided to decorate each other, also. The only down side with buying authentic henna versus the kit that Whole Foods used to sell is that it didn't come with any nifty patterns to use, so we had to wing it and try to be creative on our own.
Here's how Tyler turned out (you might have to click for a better view):

Gavin asked for a spider and a design...
We also did Shawn's feet...
And last night, I had three mama's working on my belly... Which of course you can't fit into just one shot.
It doesn't look this dark now ~ I wasn't sure how well it would turn out with my skin being stretched as much as it is, so this is before the paste dried and was scraped off...
And another... this is me at 37 weeks and 2 days ~ ready to burst. With 1 week and 2 days to go. I probably won't be showing any more belly shots because really, it can't get that much bigger, can it? And I'm sure you guys are tired of seeing my pasty white belly. ;)
Today I have a pedicure with some girls in the neighborhood on the agenda and I promised the boys a trip to the park. The Makua arrive tomorrow morning!! Next week will likely be a whirlwind of activity as we prepare for the birth... I will check in as I can. Have a Happy Sunday!

Six Things
Here are the rules:
1. Post the rules on your blog
2. Write 6 random things about yourself
3. Tag 6 people at the end of your post
4. If you're tagged, DO IT and pass on the tag
I'm going to follow two of them. :) If you want to do it, too, then consider yourself tagged.
1. My appendages are not what you'd call normal. I have deformed hands. Here is a photo of my knuckles ~ look closely at the pinkie one on my left hand. There's a hole where the knuckle should be. The actual knuckle is there, but it's back a little ways. When I put my hands together, the pinkie on that hand is shorter than the pinkie on my right hand.
I also have strange thumbs. Left is normal but right is short and fat. My theory is that I sucked it when I was a baby, but I'm not sure if that would have created such an anomaly. Even the fingernail on the right one is deformed. Weird, huh?
I do what I can to pretty them up with pedi's and toe rings but I'm always glad when winter comes around again and they can go back into hiding. :)2. I have a strange sense of humor. I don't think traditional comedies are funny. In fact, if I can tell a movie or person is trying to be funny, I rarely find it or them worth a giggle. Shawn says I have a mean sense of humor because the things I think are hilarious are people being caught off guard... shows like Scare Tactics, Just for Laughs (which I can't find a link for ~ I think it's not on any longer), Candid Camera will have me laughing until I pee my pants. I have been known to jump out from behind the shower curtain to scare my own children. I have even startled my boss, on purpose, while she was trying to parallel park by yelling "boom" as if she'd hit the car behind us. (I was lucky I wasn't fired). I have played pranks on Shawn like tying a rubber band around the squirter faucet in the kitchen so when he turned on the water to do dishes it squirted him in the belly.
3. I hate clutter. I'm constantly cleaning out old clothes, toys that are no longer played with, the junk drawer, old coupons, etc. But we have enough food and water stockpiled to last three months during a natural disaster or nuclear fallout of some sort. This is what my pantry looks like:
And here is our fridge:
The fridge is actually rather empty. I have a milk delivery coming tomorrow so the top shelf will once again be filled with glass bottles of local milk. I usually have a salad stuffed in there, too, but with Jason here over the weekend, my normal grocery trip was cut short just a bit.4. My initials are A.M.Y. I never sign with all three initials because I think people will think I'm retarded and don't know the difference between my first name and my initials. So I initial things A.Y. instead. I think this is rather cool, actually. My nephew shares this with me ~ his name is Sam and his initials are S.A.M.
5. I love to be hospitalized (for short periods of time). I'm scared to admit this with the upcoming C~section... hopefully I don't jinx myself and end up there for three weeks. But I love the overly clean and disinfected smell of hospitals. I love the feel of the nurses' well worn scrubs rubbing against my face as they lean over me to adjust my blood pressure cuff. I love getting to pick out crappy hospital food from the menu. I love being catered to and having no choice but to accept help for every move I make. When I had my babies, I stayed as long as they let me... not because I was scared to go home and be alone with the boys but it was just fun being in that tiny hospital room that seemed safe and comfortable with people coming in and out making sure we were Ok. I love getting visits or flowers ~ it makes me feel loved.
6. Despite my hate of clutter, I'm also stockpiling books. Not necessarily for the aforementioned potential natural disaster or nuclear holocaust (I really don't worry about those things, but it's nice to be prepared just in case). I am addicted to books. I've discussed this before but I don't think I've shown you what this obsession looks like. Here it is:
The top shelf is Shawn's. The bottom shelf is mostly books we've read that haven't been requested yet on PBS. The big shelf in the middle is our photo albums... I also collect pictures and am running out of room. We need to buy another book shelf. The other two shelves are mine and at last count I was over 90 books. None of which have been read. You can't tell from the picture but the books that are laying flat have books standing up behind them. I will never read all of these books. But I can't stop collecting them!! Most of them were swapped from PBS or purchased at thrift stores, so this isn't a horribly expensive habit.I figure, since I can't have a shoe habit due to the Fred Flintstone Feet, this will make up for it.

Houseguest
Shawn's oldest friend is in town visiting. They've been friends since high school and he's been one of the few constants in our lives besides family. They're going to a show tonight and we're all going to have dinner together before we part ways and I bring the boys home. We see Jason every year or so, as time and life permits. He's like an uncle to the boys and even better than that as he works for a big video game company and brings them treats when he comes.
Jason is also a big reason that Shawn and I are together today. He and Shawn were roommates in college when I met them both. I actually met Jason first and met Shawn through him, indirectly. They are polar opposites so when the first night we spent together was awkward because Shawn was so quiet and shy, and I expressed my grievances to Jason, he was able to convince me to give Shawn a chance.
I'm feeling a bit like a bad hostess, though, as my energy level is not what I'd like it to be. We haven't done much today after running around and wearing him out yesterday when he got into town, when he'd had no sleep the night before.
Last night we got an invitation to a last minute BBQ across the street so off we went, dragging Jason along. He's the type of guy that can make himself at home in any situation so we knew he'd get along with our neighbors. There was plenty of alcohol involved (for them, not me) as well as a fire in the fire pit on a chilly Colorado evening, but when the conversation changed to a disgusting video that I am apparently the last person on earth to hear about, things got interesting. I'm not posting the link to the actual video but it's not hard to find (the "reaction videos" are pretty funny). My stomach is still queasy today. Ugh. It is amazing to me what you can find on the internet and also what gets people hot and bothered.
So after subjecting Jason to video drama, he fell asleep on our love seat and never moved upstairs to the bed we'd had waiting for him. He's a very large man and I'm sure that was not the most comfortable place to sleep ~ I'm only 5'3" and don't like to sleep on it! I feel so bad that he didn't sleep in a comfy bed.
After all that, he may never come visit again! Hopefully they have a good time at the show tonight to make up for it!

In all its glory...
We had a bit of a scare yesterday. I felt what I thought was fluid leaking ... er... downstairs. I was concerned about my water breaking although it was more of a trickle than anything. In 4 pregnancies (including this one, so far), my water has never broken. So I wasn't sure what to expect. What I didn't want, though, was to take any chances with the parents not being here ~ they are still in Hawaii for another week and a half! So I called the doctor, who was on his way out the door and didn't want to wait for me to run by the office for a quick check up. They sent me to the hospital. As it turned out, the water bags are still in tact... the babies have plenty of fluid... and they were so squirmy that the RN couldn't get a 20 minute read on the heart rates! A quick ultrasound shows Baby A to be transverse now and Baby B is breech. With his head firmly planted in my ribs. No wonder I am having a hard time sleeping!
It was nerve racking to think about possibly going early. I'm confident that the babies would be great ~ they should weigh around 6 lbs this week, which is a good healthy weight for twins. (although, they are not considered "full term" twins until they are 37 weeks) But I would absolutely hate to have the Makua miss the birth, so I was concerned about that. I also have some loose ends to tie up still before I'm ready to go on maternity leave.
Luckily, the lil guys decided to stay put for a bit longer and hopefully they'll cook a couple more weeks until their parents get into town! Thanks for playing along with the numbers ~ I can't wait to see who guessed the closest! I'm hoping it's not MamaGeek, though ~ she guessed 8 pounds!! Eek! ;)

Slacker
So I'm a big bloggy slacker lately. I appreciate the checking in some of you have done in my slackerdom... I haven't had the Keiki yet. They will be here in less than three weeks, though!! We just haven't had anything exciting going on lately... The weather's been just gorgeous ~ not too hot and not too cold ~ so we've been playing outside with our neighbors a ton. We've been running errands. We've been talking politics. We've been trying to prepare for me being out of commission for a few weeks after the C~section. We've been rescuing a neighbor from baby mice in her basement. We've been watching Colts games (Shawn and the boys are huge fans!). We've been doing homework. We've been trying to squeeze in naps (Ok, maybe just me). We've been dealing with cat piss on the loveseat, courtesy of Persie (not her fault ~ the cat door was locked and she couldn't get to her litterbox) right in my living room! Eek! We've been going to birthday parties. We've been trying to catch up at work.
Busy but not very interesting!!
*******
But wait! I do have something interesting to share. I got an email from Michael Moore today (not a personal one ~ I'm on a mailing list) :) saying he's produced another movie that he's giving away completely free. You can download it (hooray for the environment ~ no packaging!) if you'd like to. It will be ready in a couple weeks and you can request it here. You can also see a preview there. I haven't watched the preview yet but Michael's never disappointed me before.
*******
Oh and here's a funny for you. The other day I walked into the bedroom whilst getting ready for work. The boys were still in our bed watching the news (they'll lay there even after Shawn and I are done snuggling and are up getting a start on our day!). I giggled at them because they looked so cute lying there in their fuzzy footie jammies. Tyler immediately wanted to know what was so funny. (*quick aside ~ he is my lil clown. He will do anything for a laugh and if he can figure out why you were laughing at him, he'll do it repeatedly until you tell him it's starting to get annoying rather than funny*) I replied that nothing was funny, I just thought they were cute laying there together.
"Are you going to go get the camera?" he asked.
"No, I wasn't planning on it" I replied (are you kidding me? walk up and down a flight steps with my extra 63 lbs when I don't have to?)
"But don't you want to take a picture for your blog??" he asked.
Heh.
It's funny to me, the differences in a child growing up in 2008 and the child that I was growing up in the early 80's. I had no idea what a blog was. "Google" wasn't in my vocabulary. I had to use a dictionary or encyclopedia. Video games were little blips on a screen and it was hard to even make out what you were looking at half the time.
*******
Let's see, what else? I s'pose that's about all I've got. If you're looking for something good to read, don't forget about EcoWomen. I have a post coming for Friday but there's good stuff all week long.
I'll try to be back soon... I think it's time for a new belly shot. The size of the belly is just amazing... and just when I think it can't possibly get any bigger, it does. The babies are still on track for 7 lbs at birth. Anyone up for a friendly wager? :)
Have a great week!

Overheard
So we have a new game at our house...
I'm totally digging it so far because I hear things like:
"Can I do some exercises before dinner?"
"I want to go for a run!"
"Let's do some pushups!"
My boys were active before but now they can't get enough! They're fighting over whose turn it is to work out :) Sweet!

T minus one month
We have exactly one month until the Keiki's birthday! In just three weeks the Makua will fly into town. It's so close now... but still seems so far away. I'm getting really anxious to meet these lil guys that have been my womb~mates since the middle of January.
The Makua are preparing in different ways ~ having baby showers, painting the nursery, putting cribs together. I can only imagine how they are feeling right now ~ anxious about the delivery, I'm sure... trying to find ways to pass the time more quickly perhaps? Excited to see who got BabyMama's pretty smile and who got BabyDaddy's intense eyes? Ready to breathe in that new baby smell for the first time?
I'm so excited for them!
I'm excited for me, too, but for different reasons. This pregnancy has, with the exception of the spotting early on, been relatively easy for me. These last few weeks are more challenging and I'm being forced to slow down a bit as my body fights against what I feel I should still be capable of doing. My belly seems to be stretched as far as it can stretch... the skin is taught and red. It seems possible to see every blue vein right under the surface. Sleeping is becoming tougher and I find it difficult to reach things in high cabinets. Shawn and I joke about my T~Rex arms... they seem to be shrinking as my belly grows!
At night my uterus contracts when I'm relaxing... no doubt practicing for labor. I know they are only Braxton~Hicks contractions, likely not effective enough for me to dilate.
I now get the funniest looks from strangers. When we're out and about I can see eyes dropping to my stomach and an interesting combination of fear and pity quickly passes over faces. I think people that interact with me must think that I'm so close to delivery that they might have to participate in it.
And the Keiki... they are as squirmy as ever! We can now feel elbows and knees moving under the skin. I think they must be feeling so crowded in there. Our doctors are guessing that they'll both be over 7 pounds when they're born. This week they're around 5 pounds.
Just four weeks... 30 days... to go.

Long Labor Day Weekend
As usual, we took a gazillion pictures. Here are some of the fun stuff we did!
The first day we had together, my mom and I went to a doctor's appointment, lunch and to get a pedi together. Quick aside ~ Keiki are looking great! They're measuring right on pace with how far along I am, rather than big like they were last time. And the pedi? Heaven of course, but even cooler was the fact that the girl who did my toes had done Michelle Obama and Jill Biden's mani's only the day before. I was quite impressed! As well as happy to hear that they are as sweet in person as I'd always imagined they'd be.
While we were pampering ourselves, my dad and Shawn took the boys to Tiny Town, where you can do cool things like rid on a train through a little town:
And you can go in some of the buildings, too.
Next they ran over to Red Rocks, nearby, to check out the views:
Then it was off to meet me and Mom at a place we've never tried before ~ White Fence Farm. It was an interesting restaurant with some attractions like a two story slide (which we didn't get any good photos of). There was a lake outside where you could feed the ducks:
There was a cool playground there, complete with an adorable little play house that Shawn got coerced into checking out...
They had a tractor you could test out...

And a very hungry cow to feed...
The goats were hungry, too!
And my parents took the boys on a carriage ride...
The next day we went to the Colorado Railroad Museum because my nephew's favorite thing in the whole wide world is trains. And there is no better place that we've found to indulge a 3.5 year old lover of trains than this cool outdoor museum.
You can walk through many of the trains...
You can see cool shiny red cabooses, too...
We did some birthday celebrating while my family was here. Tyler just celebrated his 7th a couple weeks ago, so we went to Amazing Jake's to have some fun. It's a nice alternative to Chuck E Cheese, with bigger rides (I don't know if I've ever seen happier kiddos):
And some classics, too... like bumper cars, skeeball, Go~Karts and even air hockey...
One morning the boys wanted pancakes. Gavin and Sammy decided they would taste better if they made them...
We also did some shopping at our favorite mall in Boulder and stopped by the Boulder Falls. I am not really in any condition to hike up there, but the boys went with Shawn and Dad and got some cool shots:
