We have exactly one month until the Keiki's birthday! In just three weeks the Makua will fly into town. It's so close now... but still seems so far away. I'm getting really anxious to meet these lil guys that have been my womb~mates since the middle of January.
The Makua are preparing in different ways ~ having baby showers, painting the nursery, putting cribs together. I can only imagine how they are feeling right now ~ anxious about the delivery, I'm sure... trying to find ways to pass the time more quickly perhaps? Excited to see who got BabyMama's pretty smile and who got BabyDaddy's intense eyes? Ready to breathe in that new baby smell for the first time?
I'm so excited for them!
I'm excited for me, too, but for different reasons. This pregnancy has, with the exception of the spotting early on, been relatively easy for me. These last few weeks are more challenging and I'm being forced to slow down a bit as my body fights against what I feel I should still be capable of doing. My belly seems to be stretched as far as it can stretch... the skin is taught and red. It seems possible to see every blue vein right under the surface. Sleeping is becoming tougher and I find it difficult to reach things in high cabinets. Shawn and I joke about my T~Rex arms... they seem to be shrinking as my belly grows!
At night my uterus contracts when I'm relaxing... no doubt practicing for labor. I know they are only Braxton~Hicks contractions, likely not effective enough for me to dilate.
I now get the funniest looks from strangers. When we're out and about I can see eyes dropping to my stomach and an interesting combination of fear and pity quickly passes over faces. I think people that interact with me must think that I'm so close to delivery that they might have to participate in it.
And the Keiki... they are as squirmy as ever! We can now feel elbows and knees moving under the skin. I think they must be feeling so crowded in there. Our doctors are guessing that they'll both be over 7 pounds when they're born. This week they're around 5 pounds.
Just four weeks... 30 days... to go.

Oh wow! They're getting so big!
It is getting so close! How exciting! I had a good chuckle about your T-Rex arms. I can imagine.
Wow.. yes.. that is getting close! Do you have names picked out already or are you waiting to "meet" them first?

Oh this is so exciting!!
Ooooooooohhhhhhhh! So close..even I can't wait!
The T-Rex arms - how funny.
T-rex arms! bwahahahaha!
I remember too well how I thought my belly would split right open like a ripe melon at the end of each pregnancy. Amazing that the body can grow so big.
i can't believe how close you are. such joy.
New here...
I remember the pregnancy stares and the longing to feel those little movements once the kiddos were born. Can't wait to hear exciting news!
30 days? So is it likely you'll deliver BEFORE the 30 days date with twins? Either way, I'm so excited for them AND you - I can't imagine what this last month must feel like.
SERIOUSLY.
And the T-Rex arms?
Ha. Briliant I say.
Again, I am so amazed my this generous gift you are giving to the children and parents.
"I think people that interact with me must think that I'm so close to delivery that they might have to participate in it." he he... On my due date, when I showed no sign of labor, I went out to dinner with some friends. The waitress asked when I was due, and when I simply smiled and said "Today" her eyes widened and she literally stepped back from me. It was this exact same reaction... like she was sure my water was going to break and soon I'd be pushing the plates off the table and lying on it instead while my friends encouraged me to "push... push" and she would be stuck fetching the hot water.
Wow, they're thinking around seven pounds each at birth??! Again I say wow. :)
I had to laugh at the t-rex arms bit. What immediately flashed into my head was the t-rex from Toy Story. Do you roar at people to try to scare them? ;)
(an aside...I was one of the people Painted Maypole was out to dinner with on her due date. It was so funny, the look on that waitress's face. People always seem to think that birth in real life is like it is in the movies, like one minute the woman will be fine and the next minute there will be a baby...but anyway, it was funny.)
:)
Babies!
And I am sorry, but all I can think of is that scene in "Meet the Robinsons" when the the T-Rex is explaining about his tiny arms!
Ah, 30 days! I remember: thinking I couldn't be any more uncomfortable with 7 weeks left. I was wrong. And oddly walrus-like, except for the teeth ;)
I had to pop in on Amy Y., cuz I am Ame I. :)
Hey, I didn't mean to be anon!
Ok, my baby is being a super good sleeper today so I rushed over to see if you'd had the babies yet. Whew, I'm glad I checked. I'm so excited for you, the babies, and their parents. It will be the longest 30 days ever (at least it always is for me) but hopefully they will be good to you.
ha-you are so funny!
I just popped over from MamaGeek's site and did some snooping around.
You are one AMAZING, incredible woman. Congratulations on a safe delivery of those twin boys.
If you wouldn't mind -- when you get a chance, no rush! -- can you email me with the link to where you first started posting about this surrogacy thing? I'd love to read about the whole story!
My email is andrea(DOT)lifesong(AT)gmail(DOT)com
Thanks!
