The Big 0 - 7

My first born turned 7 yesterday. It's a little surreal to me because I'm don't feel old enough to have a 7 year old... a 2nd grader! Such a big boy. Unfortunately, it was a school day so his teacher spent more time with him than we did.

He managed to keep himself out of trouble all day ~ meaning, he didn't talk when he wasn't supposed to (we're still having issues with that!). We're working on a positive and negative reinforcement system to curb that which includes being grounded on the days that he gets more than 1 warning for talking when the teacher is. But how do you ground a kid on his birthday? Luckily, it wasn't an issue as he had a good day.

And the cookies I made for him were a hit ~ except for his best friend who is allergic to chocolate. And peanut butter. Poor kid ~ can you imagine NEVER getting to eat a Reese's peanut butter cup?!

After school a couple neighbors stopped by with gifts for him ~ we are so lucky to live in such a great neighborhood.

Next it was off to Chuck E Cheese. We didn't eat dinner there, just went long enough to play some games and have some fun.

This was a new one for us ~ a jump rope simulator. He was really good at it...

He also got to play basketball, his favorite sport...

And they rode a "roller coaster" together, too...

Finally, the tough part ~ picking a prize with the tickets he'd won...

Then home to open presents. Shawn and I got him a new bike as he'd outgrown his old one...

He got cool gifts from his grandparents, too ~ like this Lego set...

All in all, he had a good day and was on cloud 9 the whole time!

Gavin, on the other hand, was not very happy about having to wait until May before his special day comes. It's tough to be 5!

the title of this made me chuckle.

love the rollercoasters at Chuck E Cheese - the Gemini and The Blue Streak, which I grew up riding at the best amusement park EVER (Cedar Point)

They look like they had a great time. And he looks awfully proud of that bike! :)

(And oh, why did PM have to mention Cedar Point??! I haven't been there since...2005, I think. Ages ago!)
