We ended up getting Miyazaki (named after the boys' favorite Japanese director). He is part Shih Tzu and part Papillion. He's 1.5 years old and a very sweet dog so far. He's not a barker and has only sprayed one time (we are getting him neutered very soon). He's very nervous, only eating and drinking when he is alone at night in the laundry room after we've all gone to bed. He likes to be with us and follows us all around the house. He hasn't been very playful yet, but we're hoping once he warms up to us, that'll change.
He likes to sit on laps and will eat popcorn but not treats. He had potty training issues, so that will be a challenge we'll face with him. We think he might have been abused because he's really nervous... but hopefully once he sees we aren't going to hurt him, he'll feel more at ease.
He's a little scruffy looking but seems to feel better after getting a bath last night. He doesn't like to go up and down stairs so he's pretty much just staying in the living room, but we're there most of the time, so he doesn't have to be alone.
Hopefully he'll be a good match for our family... I'm a little unsure at this point, but I'm trying to be optimistic.
Happy New Year! :)

Awwwwwwwww! What a cutie pie! And great name.
He's so cute! He and my bulldog Gilley can be friends! (Except Gil weighs in at about 47 pounds at six months old. She can teach Miyazaki to really like treats! LOL!)
As soon as I saw your note on my blog about being blue and getting a pet, I knew you had chose one! =)
Happy New Year!
he looks like he is going to be a sweetie.Poor little thing
aaaahhh! His head reminds me of an Oreo cookie. Mmmmm...Oreo cookies! Sorry, sidetracked.
Can't wait to meet the little guy. I bet he will relax soon. Sounds like he has had a pretty traumatic life so far.
I am sure he will like treats eventually too.
he's adorable. good luck with him!
Cute little puppy!!
(yes, I know he's over a year old, but to me all dogs are puppies. My parents have a huge Alaskan malamute...and I call her puppy. ;)
Have fun!
Congrats on your new family member! He's a sweetie. I hope he wasn't abused, though! How could anyone do that to that cute little thing?!
Happy New Year

Congrats on the new family member. I hope you have a lot more success with a dog than we did!
he's got an expression that says don't mess with me people, i've been through some stuff in this life, and you know, don't mess with me. i love that about your new dog.
Welcome Miyazaki! Best of luck - the first few weeks (months) are the hardest for everyone (including Miyazaki) to adapt. I'm sure it will all work out - he is ADORABLE!
