Each day, on my way home from work, I stop and pick up Gavin. We have about 15~20 minutes together before Tyler arrives home on the bus. I use this time to talk to him about how his day was and what he did that was fun. Here is a conversation from last week.
Me: How was school today?
Gavin: Good.
Me: Did you do anything fun?
Gavin: I played at the park. (He says this every day)
Me: Did you play with William & Conner again?
Gavin: No.
Me: Well, who did you play with? (Sometimes he says no one wanted to play with him and my heart just breaks for him).
Gavin: Dominic (Someone I have never heard of)
Me: Oh really? Is he a new friend?
Gavin, a man of few words: Yes.
Me: Well that is cool ~ what's he like?
Gavin: I don't know ~ I guess he likes me.
Of course he does... how could he not?

Exactly.
How could he not?
these sound so much like the conversations I have in the car on the way home from school with MQ!
it's like prying super secrets to get them to tell us what's going on...i somehow thought that didn't happen for many years.
Well, yeah, of course he does.
I love the gentle volley, the arcing lobs of these little exchanges.
That is so familiar. It's about what I get from Ben, and each day it's closer to what I get from Jack.
Sigh.
How cute is that!
