Purple Rain

Pollyanna is gone! The surgery seems to have gone well and I'm definitely feeling back to normal. I didn't have any of the cramping that my doctor told me I'd have ~ hooray! And other than some sleepiness from the anesthesia, I felt relatively Ok afterwards. I'm glad that's over... and now we can move forward with the surrogacy. We're still planning on a January transfer! It's going to be here before we know it!

Friday morning I volunteered in Tyler's classroom again. I really do enjoy getting to know the kids but each time I go, I wish there were more of me to go around. It must be so rough being a teacher and trying to get these kids all learning on the same level. Right now they are pretty well spaced out.... there are some that are reading Harry Potter (in 1st grade!!) and some that can barely write their names. It is really amazing to me... but we all have our strengths and we all learn on different levels.

Saturday we decided to paint the kitchen. We didn't finish until today as we stopped to go to Ria's for dinner last night. Her hubby bought a new video game that Shawn's been dying to play, so the boys and I decided to go along for the ride and hang out with Ria & her girls. The kids have so much fun together ~ they really are such great friends. I feel bad for not getting them together more frequently.

So today we finished painting. Here is the end result:

It's not *quite* that bright ~ the flash makes it look brighter than it is. It's pretty purple though... But it makes the kitchen seem warmer and cozier. And we did some pretty major cleaning while everything was cleared out of it. We still have some touching up to do but overall I'm happy with the color.

That one doesn't show the color as well but it was hard to find a good angle. The kitchen is long and skinny... not conducive for picture taking!

So the rest of our day will probably be spent relaxing around the house... Gavin's not feeling well ~ a tummy ache and a fever again. It seems to be the same thing he had a few weeks ago. Poor little guy. There doesn't seem to be much I can do about it either, other than giving him Tylenol, to make him feel better, which is frustrating. Hopefully it's just a 24 hour bug.

That's all for now... Hope you guys had a great weekend!

Table Talk

I have to say that I think Gavin is the funniest kid I've ever met.  He doesn't try to be funny... and probably doesn't always appreciate us giggling at the hilarious things he says.  But he just can't seem to help himself.  Last night as we sat down to dinner of leftover lasagna, even before we started high/low, we had this conversation.

Tyler: I miss Jason.
Me: You do?  You liked spending time with Jason, huh?
Tyler: Yes... he's a really cool guy.
Gavin, chiming in: I miss Jason too.  And Grandma & Grandpa.  And Mamaw & Papaw.
(~pause~)
Gavin (with big somber eyes and a pouty lip): And I miss our minivan.

That just tickled me... Mom laughed too so I thought it was worthy of sharing.

Jason

I met Jason before I met Shawn.  They have known each other since high school when Jason moved to the small town Shawn lived in... They became good friends ~ bonding over video games ~ a passion they both share.  They were roommates in college and have stayed in touch even as we have moved all over the country and Jason re~located to the San Francisco Bay area.

When I was a freshman in college, one of my pass times when I was bored was to get in chat rooms online to meet new people.  There was one that many people from my university frequented and I chatted with both Jason and Shawn there.  One day, early in my first semester, Jason came by my dorm room to meet me.  We got along pretty good and continued to chat online occasionally but didn't really hang out again too much until after I started dating Shawn.

For the past few years, Jason worked for a pretty big video game company and worked long hours... most of our communication has been through email and sporadic phone calls.  We've made a couple visits to California to spend time with him and his family and he's been able to come out here occasionally for a visit now and then.

He's currently in between jobs and had an interview in Salt Lake City last week... he took a detour on his way home so we got to see him for a few days.  The boys get a kick out of him being here ~ he is a fun guy to hang out with.  We took him to lunch at the Mexican version of Chuck E Cheese on Saturday, when he arrived.  That night he and Shawn went to see a movie
and get a drink.  I considered joining them for the movie but thought it might not be something I'd enjoy... and it sounds like I was right.  Though I was told, when they got home, that it would give me a good glimpse into what teenage boys go through.  Which, with two little boys, could come in handy one day... I guess.  On Sunday, when they finally woke up, we decided to drive up to the mountains to see where Buffalo Bill was buried.   Lookout Mountain is beautiful and you can see forever... but the museum wouldn't take debit cards (and we never carry cash) so we didn't get to learn much about Bill.  That night I made a lasagna for dinner and if I do say so myself, it was the best lasagna that I have ever eaten.

Monday was Shawn's turn to cook ~ he made a chili and let it cook in the crock pot all day while the boys and I were at school and work.  I love coming home to dinner ready that I did not make!  Shawn and Jason had gone up to Ft. Collins that day to enjoy lunch at Colorado's best Pizza place and go on a couple brewery tours.   Nothing like free beer, just brewed (which they give you at the end of the tour).

Tuesday the guys met me for lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant and then went to try some more local beer and walk around the mall.  That night, Jason made us dinner ~ his not quite famous Chicken Parmesan.  It was quite a treat!  After dinner it was my turn to go out for a drink with Jason... and his friend who moved here from California a few years ago. We went to Ria's favorite place, which was quite different during the week than our usual weekend outings.   Don't be fooled by the website... it's only a cheese steak place by day.  At night it's a fun bar with an eclectic group of people.... I won't go into details but let me just say there was some interesting entertainment in the form of drunk guys playing Texas Hold 'Em.  It wasn't too loud to have a conversation, however, and it was fun to sit and catch up with Jason... as well as get to know his friend.

It was rough getting up for work today, however, and I'm a little beat!  Tomorrow is Pollyanna's removal... It'll be nice to get to take a nap while she is removed!  We'll celebrate quietly tonight and I'm looking forward to snuggling with my honey tonight and having him all to myself after having company for a few days!
